Jigsaw With a Million Pieces

Someone was on my side that day

the day I first saw your ringlets of golden brown

eyes a caramel apple sucker

you tasted sweeter than candy

Just when I had given up

you swooped down upon me

white dove wings bulletproof

against the chill of winter

All we wanted was a short time

to feel the warmth of each other

under the sheets of solitude

I met a stranger that knew me

A lost soul looking for a place to rest awhile

I tend not to cry when I write

I let my fingers tap the keyboard

like hammers against steel

telling my thoughts to strangers passing by

But when I write of you tears fill my eyes

I never thought I could love someone so purely

Someone that will only choose me eternally

someone that turned a hopeless romantic

into a hopeful one

Someone that kisses my face as I fall asleep

turns off the T.V. and whispers goodnight

Making sure I have my coffee for work

Making sure I feel heard

Communication

Consistency

Trust

Boundaries

Things I’ve never had in a relationship

come to life

you prove to me that I am in fact

not the broken one

You say:

“Your past lovers were fools

to let you go”

And as selfish as it may seem

I’m happy yours

didn’t know what they had

when they tore you apart

Because now

I have the sweetest pleasure

of putting you back together

A jigsaw with a million pieces
